Protectors of the Menominee River

The Protectors of the Menominee River are a group of concerned citizens working together to protect and honor our Menominee ancestors and all of creation.

...And ultimately, to protect the river that bears our name against the proposed Back Forty Mine project in Stephenson, MI.

The Menominee creation story took place at the mouth of the Menominee River. We will forever be connected to the land and water and no man, no mine, no machine will break that connection!

The open pit metallic sulfide mine, proposed by the Canadian mining exploration company, Aquila Resources Inc. threatens our Menominee River bordering the Wisconsin and Michigan state lines. The mine footprint lies just 150 feet from the river and therefore has the potential to pollute the water which sustains us all!
