Cherie Thunder is Menominee, Potawatomi, German, Irish, and Swedish and grew up on the Menominee reservation. She is a trained community organizer with Menīkānaehkem, Inc., an Indigenous led grassroots organization on the Menominee reservation and works to uplift Menominee food sovereignty and traditional harvesting/gathering practices. Cherie also mentors the youth cohort, oskéh-pemátesewak, supports the MMIW Women’s Leadership Cohort and various initiatives of the organization.
Cherie received her Associate’s degree in Sustainable Development from College of Menominee Nation and Bachelor of Science in Community and Environmental Sociology from University of Wisconsin-Madison. After coordinating the Sustainability Leadership Cohort Program at Sustainable Development Institute for four years she began seeking ways to make a larger impact for her community.
